At-Home Bubble Foam

It was over 10 degrees celsius here today and not raining or snowing so, naturally, we spent the majority of it outside (my fellow Canadians will understand this). 

While we are super fortunate to have lots of outdoor space to play in during isolation (picture it: tree swings, backyard pond, screened in gazebo, play structures, a large deck with a water tablesandbox, I could go on), I admit that even I grow bored with what’s available to us.

So, in steps The Busy Toddler (can I get an Amen?)

If you teach Kindergarten or have a child under 3 and haven’t checked out her Instagram Page or website, I highly recommend that you do. There are TONS of simple and fun ideas to try with little ones. I like doing them at home, sharing them with friends, and depending on the difficulty of the activity, sometimes even recommending them to my own Kindergarten students. Bubble Foam was super easy and only required 4 things:

  1. a large sensory tub

  2. water

  3. bubble bath

  4. a hand mixer

I kind of haphazardly measured in the water and bubble bath until the mixture came out right, but the exact recipe can be found right here. Susie uses food colouring in her Bubble Foam and it’s super pretty and aesthetically pleasing buuuuut let’s be honest … I wasn’t putting food colouring anywhere near my 18-month old (and my brand new indoor/outdoor rug from Bed Bath & Beyond). 

Pro tip: I was using the lowest setting on my grandmother’s old hand mixer and it wasn’t boding too well. Once I kicked it into high gear, though, the foam started forming and holding a lot better.
